Central High Ushers in a New Era:
Grand Junction, CO — December 4–6, 2025 The hardwood at Central High School will once again host one of Colorado’s premier basketball traditions: the 37th Warrior Challenge. For three days, the gym will be alive with energy as elite talent from across the state converges to compete, inspire, and showcase the future of Colorado hoops. For the Central Warriors, this year’s Challenge represents more than competition — it marks the beginning of a new chapter.
The Warrior Challenge has long been a proving ground for the state’s brightest stars, and this year’s lineup continues that legacy. Four standout players headline the tournament:
Kade Speckman (Lutheran) — A prolific scorer who averaged 22.6 points per game last season, Speckman brings a lethal shooting touch and the ability to take over games.
Jhett Wells (Fruita) — Known for his fearless drives and consistency, Wells posted 19.8 points per game and remains one of the most dynamic guards in Colorado.
Noah Sokolowski (Horizon) — A versatile forward who averaged 18.7 points per game, Sokolowski’s size and skill make him a matchup nightmare.
Blake Rooks (Central) — The hometown star, Rooks averaged 14.1 points per game last season. His leadership and determination embody the Warriors’ spirit as they look to rebound.
Guiding Central into this new era is Head Coach Jim Schaffer, whose résumé speaks volumes. With nearly 40 years of high school coaching experience, Schaffer has amassed more than 500 career wins, including a 2024 Wyoming state title with Cheyenne Central. His career also includes a three-year stop at Grand Junction and induction into the Wyoming Coaching Hall of Fame in 2018.
For the Warriors, Schaffer’s arrival is more than a coaching change — it’s a cultural reset. After a 3–20 season last year, Central is determined to restore pride and competitiveness under his leadership.
The Warriors’ resurgence will be anchored by seniors Jaime Padilla and Rylie Hoyt, who enter their final season with determination and grit. Both players are committed to turning the page and leaving a lasting mark on the program. Their leadership, combined with Schaffer’s experience, sets the tone for a team hungry to prove itself.
The Warrior Challenge is more than just a basketball showcase. It’s a celebration of community, tradition, and the future of Colorado hoops. For Central High, it’s a chance to rally fans, inspire younger athletes, and demonstrate resilience in the face of adversity.
As the gym fills with energy from December 4–6, one thing is certain: the 37th Warrior Challenge will deliver unforgettable moments — and the Warriors are ready to rise to the occasion.
