It was a merry-go-round night for the Central High School softball team. Scoring in every inning, including five-run innings in the first, third and fourth, the Warriors (5-2, 1-0 Southwestern League) defeated Grand Junction 18-2 in four innings at Bergman Field. Jaeda Garcia scored four runs on two hits, including an inside-the-park home run in the top of the fourth. Garcia ripped a hard shot down the right-field line and ran hard out of the box and never slowed down until she touched home plate. Ashleigh Satterfield pitched all four innings and didn't give up a hit after the first inning, when the Tigers (1-9, 0-1 SWL) scored two runs on two hits. Standouts and the key inning The third inning had a little of everything for the Warriors, including a lot of station-to-station plays. Aislyn Sharp had a hit that scored Garcia then Sharp later scored on a fielder's choice, racing home from third on the throw to first. Sierra Dunham, Kelty Key and Satterfield all had RBI singles to keep pushing runs across. Shaelyn Grant was on base all four times in the game, including a double, and scored three runs. Mya Murdock scored two runs and had a double and a single. Getting defensive The defensive play of the game was turned in by Aleah Chick in the bottom of the third. The Warriors' left fielder chased down a deep fly ball that drifted into foul territory. Chick dove for the ball and snagged it as she hit the ground for the third out. Central Coach Scott Else made some shifts in the infield, rotating Murdock, Sharp and Myah Arrieta at third, shortstop and second base. "I just wanted them to be ready to play every position and they can. So we swapped them around a little and as you can see we don't lose a beat," Else said. Quoteworthy "We have two losses right now but both those teams are ranked in the top 10, so I like where we're at," Else said. "This is a good league win for us." Garcia on her home run: "I wasn't really thinking home run, but I picked up my coach at (third) and I was like, 'Well, I guess we're going home OK,' " she said laughing. "I always run hard out the box but I didn't think I hit it that far."
