Shawn Marsh has high hopes for the Central Warriors this year. But the head coach also knows the fickleness of high school football, so he's still taking a cautious approach with his expectations. He had high hopes last year, too. "We never bonded together as a team and that hurt us," he said. "We lost games that we should not have lost, and I think with our experience and leadership this year, we will be better and keep that from happening again." There's plenty of experience on the Warriors' squad this season, led by versatile senior Anthony Zubiate. He returns as the leading ball carrier from last year when he rushed for nearly 600 yards. But it's on defense, playing in the secondary, that has him excited. "We do have some pretty big expectations for the season because we have so many seniors on the team, especially on the defensive side," he said. "We have guys who are really ready to step up on the offensive side as well." Marsh said Central should be pretty sound on both sides of the football. "We should be good on defense and we will have an aggressive defense," he said. Running Marsh's high-powered spread offense will be junior Max Marsh, who started two games and got plenty of playing time last year. In limited action last year, Marsh threw for nearly 800 yards. "With the spread offense, it's nice to have someone back at quarterback with experience," Shawn Marsh said, adding the offense's key is the QB making quick and correct reads. With some speedy receivers and Zubiate and fellow senior Cade Balleweg at running back, the Warriors will have plenty of skill-position talent. Zubiate and Balleweg are dynamic offensive players. Balleweg led the team in catches with 34 and receiving yards with 395. Marsh said the coaches need to find different ways to get Zubiate and Balleweg the ball, as well as finding ways to get the Warriors' other skill-position players into the mix.
