The Central High School girls soccer team put together one of its best games of the year in a 1-0 win over Montrose on Thursday.

Playing at Long Family Park, the Warriors (2-3, 1-1 Southwestern League) got a first-half goal from Leah Redding.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Madaris was solid all afternoon in getting the shutout.

Coach Ethan Johnson said the team played a good-all around game against the Indians (3-4-1, 0-1 SWL)

"I was very happy with the way the girls played. They're playing soccer, we're not just playing defense and kickball," he said.

From her perspective in goal, Madaris said she can see a much improved team on the field.

"This game we had more opportunities and we were more fundamental. From where I'm at I can see everything and it's nice to see that we're coming together," she said. "We settled the ball, connected passes and looking to score. so everything we worked on in practice was applied in this game."

Palisade 10, Rifle 0: Ali Bollinger and Lexi Newton scored multiple goals to lead the Bulldogs (1-2-1, 1-1 4A Western Slope League) in a mercy-rule win over the Bears (0-4, 0-3).
